Nompumelelo Ngoma b.1984 Soweto, Dlamini began her studies in Fine Art at the South West Gauteng College in 2004/5. She holds a Professional Printmaking Cercate from Arst Proof Studio (2006-2008). During her third year at Arst Proof Studio she was awarded a bursary by Linda Givon, founder of Goodman Gallery, to further her studies at the University of Johannesburg, achieving a Diploma in 2011 and an Honors’ degree in Visual Art in 2012. Ngoma served at Arst Proof Studio as an Art Teacher in 2013-2016. She currently works as an independent arst.
My art making process is way of exploring ideas and concepts that take a strong focus on female identy, especially within African cultural tradions and instuons. I am interested in how dress and fabric signies one's cultural identy and how it is used as a form of representaon. My intent to explore the female identy manifests through the use of feminine fabrics such as blankets, veils, dishcloths, doileys, dresses and headscarves, using the female body as a backdrop
